Climate and global change, weather forecasting, atmosphere physics and chemistry and effects of global change on organisms.  

1. Research on weather forecasting and prevision of sea agitation, such as implementation and use of appropriate models;  
2. maintained a web page, with climatic and meteorological information (www.climaat.angra.uac.pt);  
3. Study the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere, from a privilege observation point – The Azores. Therefore, enhanced the geostrategic position of the Azores, in order to meet the international scientific interest of monitoring the weather in the Atlantic basin, establishing the connection between the American, European and African continents;  
4. Offer operational response to the needs of the various activities in the Atlantic Archipelagos that relate to climate and meteorology;  
5. Study the effects of global change on island ecosystems, from the island tops to the surface ocean.
